The Hindu religious festival Holi / Rang Panchami is all about colors, but it’s also an excuse to eat foods that awaken the senses and keep your spirits high.
Although traditional Holi delicacies vary from region to region and family to family, we’ve included a few important snacks and drinks to enjoy during your celebration. So, while you prepare yourself to enjoy this festival with gulaal, water guns, endless singing and dancing- take a note of these Holi delicacies to make the festival even more special.

On this day, there are many traditional foods to be eaten. Good food is as it looks. You first eat with your eyes and wait to dig into the holi special food displayed out there, but if you don't want to gain any more weight, follow our
special holi food menu:


1.      Thandai- This sweet, creamy milk drink is a Holi staple. It is flavored with nuts and mixed with spices such as cardamom, fennel, rose petals, and poppy seeds.



2.      Puran Poli- It is a very popular sweet in the western Indian state of Maharasthra. It is a kind of sweet, buttery flatbread with stuffed jaggery, boiled lentils and cardamom.



3.      Gujiyas- They are sweet dumplings made of maida or flour and filled with a delightful khoya and dry fruits mixture. Deep fried in ghee and dipped in sugary syrup.




4.      Malpua- It is a traditional sweet of north India, it is a pancake like Indian dessert, fried in ghee and dipped in sugar syrup

BEWARE OF THE PARTY BINGE THIS HOLI

Going out to play Holi? - A healthy and heavy breakfast is compulsory so that you should not end up overeating as it will just add more calories.

A healthy breakfast should consist of food items like -
1.      1 bowl Muesli with milk and fruits
2.      1 bowl of mixed fruits
3.      2 idlis/1 vegetable dosa + mint coriander chutney
4.      1 bowl oats porridge
5.      1 bowl poha/upma/ mix veg. sevaiyan

DRINK HEALTHY

Dehydration is linked to headaches, muscle fatigue, obesity, poor gut health, and lethargy. Thus, HYDRATE yourself well this Holi with enough water over sodas and other artificially flavored drinks

Here are some refreshments drinks which can grab this Holi-

1.      A glass of lemon water
2.      1 glass fresh fruit or vegetable juice
3.      1 glass coconut water or buttermilk
4.      1 glass chia seeds in water
5.      1 glass unsweetened Iced tea


HOLI NIGHT

After consuming heavy meal during the day. Choose light dinner:

  1. 1 bowl of Soup(veg/non-veg)
  2. 1 bowl Salad or Stir-fried veggies
  3. 1 bowl of Khichdi with curdVegetable / paneer / chicken sandwiches
  4.  Green moong dal / Oats chillas/ Dhokla 
  5.     Muthiya/ Idli/ Dosa with mint coriander chutney
